Bridging Clinical Excellence and Executive Leadership for Sustainable Healthcare

Professor Jiade J. Lu, MD, MBA, Vice President of Heyou International Health System and Director of the Center of Excellence for Cancer Care at Heyou Hospital, was invited as a distinguished panelist at the Siemens Healthineers Executive Summit 2025, held in Munich, Germany, from October 23 to 25.
Under the theme 「To the Limit. And Going Beyond,」 this year’s Executive Summit gathered over 220 senior healthcare leaders from more than 40 countries, including chief executives, government policymakers, and academic experts from world-leading institutions such as University of Rochester Medical Center, Imperial College Health Partners, and Alberta Cancer Care.
The summit explored critical topics shaping the future of healthcare—ranging from youth mental health and leadership transformation to system redesign and the challenge of scaling innovation.
Professor Lu participated in the high-level panel "Aligning Clinical and Executive Leadership." Drawing on his dual background as a senior radiation oncologist, scholar, and healthcare executive, Professor Lu shared Heyou International Health System’s practical experience in integrating clinical excellence with organizational efficiency.
He emphasized that effective healthcare transformation depends on both sides of leadership: "Clinical teams must focus on delivering high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care, while executive leaders must provide the strategic vision, infrastructure, and resources that enable these teams to succeed."
Professor Lu further elaborated on the concept of 「医管分离与融合」 (the decoupling-integration of clinical and administrative leadership) — a modern management model that allows medical professionals to retain autonomy over clinical decision-making, while ensuring that administrative systems provide aligned financial, operational, and technological support. He noted that this synergy is the cornerstone of sustainable, high-performance hospitals in the post-DRG era.
Through case examples from Heyou Hospital’s integrated oncology service, Professor Lu demonstrated how multidisciplinary collaboration, efficient process design, and data-driven management can enhance both patient outcomes and institutional efficiency.
His participation at the summit highlights Heyou Hospital’s growing influence on the global stage, reflecting its commitment to innovation-driven, patient-centered, and quality-oriented healthcare development.
